EVE Online Dashboard Widget

10 December 2007

I’m not sure whether it’s for better or worse that I have been dragged into EVE Online by a friend from college. The game is beautiful, and I love to support gaming on the Mac platform. EVE has an excellent API as well. Unfortunately, the only way to track my character’s status outside the game is by running EVE applications on Windows through Parallels. I’m proud to introduce version one of the EVE Online Dashboard Widget. This simple widget will help you track the expiration time of skills. In order to use it, you’ll need your EVE API Key.

Download here: EVE Online Character Tracker Widget.

Also, Apple requires me to place this paragraph here as instructions:

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is required. If you’re using Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget’s icon in the Widget Bar to open it. If you’re using a browser other than Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, unarchive it and place it in /Library/Widgets/ in your home folder. show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget’s icon in the Widget Bar to open it.

  1. Kashmar remarked,

Nice widget.. Running it parallel with the EVE Skill Monitor atm.

Would be nice with a time-of-completion date/time along with the countdown.

  2. Jouko added,

My character’s picture is not showing. Is there a way to fix this?

  3. Ryan added,

@Jouko: some portraits show up, some don’t. It seems there’s a bug in EVE regarding some character portraits. I’ve logged a petition about it, and they basically say, “we’re working on it.”
