&lt;p&gt;One would like to think that... the thing is, America is already &lt;em&gt;in&lt;/em&gt; this future you allude to.  09/11 is the reaction to years of screwing over Arabs through foreign policy decisions based on oil interests.  And look at the reaction of America to 09/11 - people are more behind Bush than ever.  More attacks will only strengthen Republican resolve.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I have no idea what, if anything, can change this course.&lt;/p&gt;
